The first section of The Pentland Way is from Dunsyre to Carlops via West Linton golf course. The distance is approximately 12 kilometres. This section is mainly flat and straight and, for a large part, follows the old Roman Road, although some care needs to be taken around Garvald.
Alternative Start point: An alternative route enables The Pentland Way to start at the bus halt at Dolphinton NT111478 and join the route from Dunsyre at Garvald Home Farm. This route compensates for the lack of public transport and car parking at Dunsyre village.
