On descending Turnhouse and after crossing the Glencorse burn on a small footbridge, The Pentland Way turns west (left) to follow the burn upstream towards Glencorse Reservoir.
An eastward (right) turn takes the walker to Flotterstone, about 500m along the path, where there are refreshment facilities and a public toilet.
Flotterstone, by the side of the A702, is a popular access point to the Pentland ridge. The name is derived from the Scots word “fluthers” referring to loose flakes of stone across marshy ground. This may refer to the stepping stones across the Glencorse Burn.
